Article: What environmental design means today

Environmental design is a new approach in planning consumer products and industrial processes that are ecologically intelligent, sustainable, and healthy for both humans and our environment.

The designing of urban living spaces, policies or products with a focus on sustainability can be termed as environmental design. Environmental designers focus on using environmental friendly materials for their products.

In terms of a larger scope, environmental design has implications for the industrial design of products: innovative automobiles, wind-electricity generators, solar-electric equipment, and other kinds of equipment could serve as examples. Currently, the term has expanded to apply to ecological and sustainability issues.

Almost any design can be made according to the environment. The most common in practice is architectural and industrial designs. The designs starting from a computer chip, nano tech, chemicals, all mechanic and electronic parts, machines, construction material, energy resource, recycling etc. till all components, tools, instruments to complete a building or facility with its furniture and utilities can be environmental. Most of the free areas can be used for planting trees and/or solar and wind energy generation.
